PORVORIM: Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte, briefing the media on the day of the special assembly session, highlighted the significant employment opportunities that the Unity Mall project will create for local communities in Chimbel.
Speaking about the Unity Mall, Khaunte emphasized that it is part of the Central Government’s “One District, One Product” initiative, designed to empower local residents and promote entrepreneurship. “The Unity Mall will provide meaningful employment and open up new opportunities for villagers, bringing positive transformation to Chimbel,” he said. He added that this initiative of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has already been successfully implemented in 22 other states.
Khaunte assured that all necessary environment concerns and permissions will be taken care of, and the Chief Minister Shri Pramod Sawant has directed that presentations be made to Panchayat members and local MLAs to ensure they fully understand the project.
On the Prashasan Stambh, Minister Khaunte described it as “a very ambitious project of the Chief Minister,” which will also create jobs while encouraging local participation. He underlined that these projects will be implemented in consultation with Panchayat authorities and local communities.
Addressing environmental concerns, Khaunte clarified, “The government is conscious of the environment while planning these projects. There should not be opposition to the Unity Mall without understanding its concept. Moreover, there are already private buildings on both sides of the proposed land.”
Through these initiatives, the government aims to ensure that local residents directly benefit from development, with employment creation at the heart of Goa’s growth story.
