Velim: Velim MLA Cruz Silva on Thursday visited farmlands affected by recent unseasonal rains, which have caused extensive damage to crops across the constituency. He was accompanied by Zonal Agriculture Officer Shri Rajesh Da Costa and Assistant Shri Rangel during the inspection tour.
According to officials, the unexpected weather event has impacted around 30 farmers, with estimated crop losses covering nearly 60,000 square metres. Many farmers have reported significant damage to their seasonal produce, raising concerns about income loss and food security in the region.
Expressing serious concern over the situation, MLA Silva urged the government to provide immediate compensation to affected farmers and initiate swift relief measures. He stressed the importance of timely intervention to alleviate the financial burden on the farming community.
“This is a difficult time for our farmers, and they need prompt support. I appeal to the government to ensure quick assessment and compensation so they can recover from these losses,” Silva said.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening agricultural resilience in Velim, adding that long-term solutions must be explored to protect livelihoods in the face of increasingly erratic weather patterns.
