PORVORIM: The Save Old Goa Action Committee (SOGAC) submitted a memorandum to the state government on Friday, raising concerns about suspected unlawful developmental operations that are proliferating in the Old Goa heritage zone.
Bringing up the fact that there are twelve projects planned in the area around Old Goa, SOGAC asked the public to fill out forms available on the Save Old Goa Action Committee’s Facebook page and send them to the Chief Minister along with signatures expressing their opposition to the projects being built in a historic location.
“It will support our need for a master plan to be provided prior to the exposition, she said.
SOGAC said that the projects that are planned for the area include the construction of a floating jetty, an illegal bungalow, a heritage interpretation centre, a garbage treatment plant, an IPB laterite centre, a former MLA’s bungalow, a helipad, and sound pollution.
Additionally, the action committee also said that there will be four farmhouses with ten bedrooms each. These projects are not necessary in Old Goa, in my opinion. It is not necessary to contaminate the area.
SOGAC said it is important to have a Master Plan in place for Old Goa as many unwanted projects are cropping all over.
“There are projects like farmhouses, chocolate exhibition centre, heritage interpretation centre, garbage treatment plant, helipad, illegal bungalow and other constructions along with others which threaten the heritage site,” they added.
