CANACONA: The Department of Urban Development, Goa, has launched a comprehensive survey across all 12 wards of the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) to update property records, assess taxes, and enhance resource planning and allocation.
The initiative involves the use of drones to generate GIS (Geographic Information System)-based 3D maps, which will be integrated with property tax records for better data accuracy and transparency.
A 20-member team from M/s Colebro Group Pvt. Ltd. has been tasked with conducting the survey, which also includes evaluating living conditions, land usage, and basic infrastructure needs within each ward.
However, officials report that surveyors are facing resistance from some residents, which could hamper the effective execution of the project. Authorities have expressed concern that such non-cooperation may delay or obstruct future developmental activities in municipal areas.
CMC Chairperson Sara Shambha Naik Desai has urged residents to extend full cooperation. “Surveyors will record details such as the type of housing — whether mud-wall or concrete structures — and identify existing gaps in civic infrastructure. This data is critical for planning future improvements,” she said.
The survey began in the Nagarcem ward, which has already been completed. Work is currently underway in Chaudi ward.
Chaudi ward councillor Ramakant Naik Gaonkar has appealed to residents to assist the survey team by providing relevant documents such as water and electricity bills and rent receipts. “This initiative will lay the groundwork for targeted development in our area,” he added.
According to officials, the data collected will be shared across departments to aid in more informed planning, governance, and developmental decisions for Canacona.
