PANAJI: Usgao and Shiroda village panchayats in Goa are the first to be TB-free, according to a statement made today by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.
“Under the ‘TB Mukt Panchayat’ initiative, Usgao and Shiroda village panchayats became the first in Goa to be TB free,” said Rane
He said that the collective approach is a part of the State’s larger goal to eliminate TB, as the Centre has set a 2025 deadline for the same.
“In Goa, we provide free diagnostic tests, treatment services, and nutritional support to TB patients. Numerous patients have benefited from Direct Benefit Transfers under the Nikshay Poshan Yojana and nutritional kits have been distributed by Nikshay Mitras,” he added
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane also said that he is committed to making Goa TB-free.
At the TB Mukt Bharat event held at ESG Hall, Panaji, DHS awarded the winners of the video and reel-making competition, acknowledging their outstanding contributions to raising awareness about tuberculosis.
Rane said that they used the power of media to highlight Goa’s ongoing efforts in the fight against TB and created a lasting impression.
“Their videos not only emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and treatment but also showcased the collective efforts under the ‘TB Mukt Panchayat’ initiative, where local Panchayats like Usgao and Shiroda have already been declared TB-free,” he added
