Panaji: Former Congress leader Mamata Maben on Monday joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the presence of AAP Goa President Valmiki Naik and Senior Vice President Sandesh Teleikar-Dessai.
Welcoming her into the party, Naik said the entry of leaders like Maben reflects the growing support for AAP in Goa and shows that the party is emerging as a strong and credible alternative to the BJP.
Naik said Maben has been actively involved in grassroots work, particularly in the Ponda region, and her experience in engaging with people at the local level will strengthen the party’s efforts in the area.
He also stated that more leaders and citizens are recognising AAP’s commitment to honest politics and welfare-oriented governance. According to him, people are increasingly looking towards AAP as a viable political alternative capable of challenging the BJP in the state.
Speaking after joining the party, Maben said she had been associated with the Congress for 17 years but was never involved in key decision-making processes. She said she decided to quit the party and join AAP after being inspired by its leadership and governance initiatives.
Maben said the governance model implemented under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, particularly in sectors such as healthcare, education and welfare schemes, motivated her to be part of the party.
AAP Senior Vice President Sandesh Teleikar-Dessai said the party will continue strengthening its grassroots presence while addressing key issues faced by people in Goa, including healthcare access, infrastructure challenges and administrative problems.
