VALPOI: Some roads in Sattari taluka have been repaired or hotly mixed, but the main entrance to Valpoi is in dilapidated condition.
The Valpoi locals are upset that as they had to celebrate, Ganesh Chaturthi is such a precarious road condition. They have now demanded that the roads should be tarred immediately.
People say the monsoons have reduced, except for cyclonic rains, but the government has not taken any initiative to repair or hot mixing.
Moreover, people say that the road between Valpoi-Honda is completely damaged.
The road is unpredictable due to potholes in many places, leading to an increase in accidents. During Ganesh Chaturthi, many accidents took place on this road.
The authorities had said that the work was delayed due to rains, but now the rains have receded, yet there are no repairs.
With several accidents reported, the villagers demand immediate repairs before any big accident occurs and people lose their lives.
They say that many passengers going to places like Panaji Mhapsa have to use this route and as such the traffic on this road is increasing day by day.
The Valpoi Congress workers submitted a memorandum to the Public Works Department demanding immediate road repair, but nothing has happened.
The road between Valpoi-Dabe also has a large number of potholes. Locals have expressed anger over the overall road conditions in the constituency.
Local MLA Vishwajit Rane has come in for severe criticism in this regard.
Though several resolutions were passed by the local panchayat to improve the situation, those have remained only on paper.
