PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated the year-long commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the patriotic song ‘Vande Mataram’ at Kala Academy today, urging youth to draw inspiration from its spirit of unity and devotion to the nation.
Dr. Sawant said that ‘Vande Mataram’, penned by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, continues to inspire generations, reminding every Indian to live and work for the progress of a Viksit Bharat 2047. “Our freedom fighters drew inspiration from this song and sacrificed their lives for the nation. Likewise, I call upon the youth to live for India’s development and fulfill their dreams through the dreams of the nation,” he said.
Highlighting Goa’s strides in education and opportunities for youth, the Chief Minister said, “The time is opportune, and the next few decades are crucial for the youth to play a major role in building the nation.”
The programme began with a rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’ and patriotic instrumental music by the Kala Academy staff. Secretary (Art & Culture) Shri Santosh Sukhadeve, IAS, welcomed the gathering and informed that the commemoration will continue throughout the year.
On the occasion, the dignitaries released Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s novel ‘Anandamath’, which features the iconic song. The live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address from New Delhi was also screened.
