VASCO: Vasco constituency on Monday became the first in Goa to promote and create awareness about the ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative, with the launch of an awareness booth and photo corner during the second edition of the Daji Premier League — a popular inter-booth cricket tournament.
The campaign was inaugurated by BJP State President Damu Naik in the presence of Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, BJP Spokesperson Giriraj Pai Vernekar, Sarvanand Bhagat, former Panjim MLA Siddharth Kunkalienkar and other dignitaries.
Speaking to media, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar said that the awareness initiative was taken up by the Drivers Hill Social and Cultural Club, which had approached him with a proposal to set up an information booth at the tournament venue, which sees participation from youth across Vasco.
“The club took the initiative to set up a photo booth, stage and distribute pamphlets highlighting the importance of a unified election process across the country. When I informed BJP State President Damu Naik about this youth-led initiative, he immediately supported it. The youth have done a commendable job in raising awareness about how frequent state elections drain financial and administrative resources,” said Salkar.
He added, “Multiple elections result in increased government expenditure and disrupt administrative work due to repeated deployment of government staff on election duties. It is heartening to see the youth come forward and suggest that Lok Sabha and Assembly elections be held simultaneously.”
BJP State President Damu Naik lauded the efforts of the Vasco constituency and said it had set a precedent in Goa.
“Vasco has become the first constituency in the state to promote this vital concept. I congratulate MLA Krishna Salkar for taking this program to the grassroots level and inspiring youth participation. The idea of ‘One Nation, One Election’ is a visionary proposal under consideration by the Government of India, and awareness must spread across villages, panchayats and municipalities,” said Naik.
He further emphasized the need for civic bodies to pass resolutions in support of the proposal and forward them to the President of India. “The Drivers Hill Social and Cultural Club seized the opportunity during the Daji Premier League, and the way the youth are engaging with the public through placards and pamphlets is truly encouraging,” Naik added.
