VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Wednesday afternoon flagged off a 120-member all-women group from Vasco railway station as they departed for Agra to perform Shiv Gatha, a play depicting the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in commemoration of Shiv Chaturya Din.
The group, representing the Kala Shakti Dance Institute, Cortalim, will stage an all-women drama centred on the historic escape of Shivaji Maharaj, marking the celebration of Shiv Chaturya Diwas at Agra.
Speaking to the media, Salkar expressed pride over the group’s achievement. “It is a proud and historic moment for Mormugao taluka to have our women perform on such a grand stage in Agra. This is not just a performance, but a fitting tribute to the great Maratha king,” he said.
Salkar lauded the dedication and effort of the women participants, calling the opportunity “a significant cultural milestone” for Goa. “This is a historic step by women from our state, showcasing our talent and paying homage to one of the greatest leaders in Indian history,” he added.
The performance in Agra is expected to draw attention to Goa’s cultural richness while inspiring more women to take part in preserving and promoting history through art.
