VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, accompanied by railway officials, conducted an inspection of the retaining wall construction project undertaken by the Railways in Shantinagar.
His visit aimed to address concerns among local residents about potential risks to their homes due to ongoing construction.
During the inspection, Salkar assured residents that the construction of the retaining wall would keep their homes out of the danger zone, protecting them from landslides.
Speaking to the media, Salkar explained that he responded to residents’ concerns by pausing the work until he could return from Maharashtra and inspect the site personally.
“I immediately directed the Railways to halt construction until I could assess the situation. After inspecting, I explained to residents that the retaining wall would safeguard their homes during landslides. Any part of a house that might be impacted can be rebuilt once the retaining wall is completed,” Salkar said.
He emphasized the importance of involving locals in the process to ensure transparency.
“We have requested the Railways to engage with the local community, so they feel informed and secure. Additionally, the Railways have agreed to create more accessible space for vehicles to reach residents’ homes after the wall is built,” Salkar added.
Salkar also noted that the Railways have committed to constructing a new gutter to replace the one damaged during earlier works.
This initiative has eased concerns among the residents, many of whom feared that their homes might be demolished due to the construction.
Expressing their gratitude, locals thanked Salkar for his continued support and for ensuring that the project proceeded without harm to their homes.
