BAINA: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar initiated the hot-mix resurfacing work on the main road connecting Ambabai Temple, Mangor, to Kamat Garage, Baina. Speaking to reporters, Salkar assured that the project would be completed within two to three days and confirmed the inclusion of the long-neglected Islampur road in the initiative.
“The project is being carried out at a cost of ₹90 lakh and will cover the stretch between Ambabai Temple and Kamat Garage in Baina. Additionally, we are including the Islampur road, which has been neglected for several years. The road near the school in Islampur was in terrible condition, causing inconvenience to students. We are now committed to resurfacing almost all roads in Vasco,” Salkar said.
He also highlighted ongoing and upcoming road development projects in the constituency. “The stretch from Thakkar House to Varunapuri Junction has already been sanctioned, but work has been temporarily put on hold as we are constructing four new culverts near Tanya Hotel, which require road widening. Additionally, a new railway overbridge near Tanya Hotel is being launched soon and we want to avoid redoing the roadwork after these projects are completed. Hence, we have decided to take up this work after two months,” he explained.
Salkar further announced plans for the beautification of Swatantra Path, followed by the hot-mixing of roads in the area. He assured that major roads across Vasco would be resurfaced in the next few months, including internal roads. “For the first time, we are not only focusing on road works but also addressing issues such as road shoulders and gutter repairs along the roads,” he added.
Speaking about the long-pending Baina Garden project, Salkar revealed that the redevelopment was nearing completion. “We have a project worth ₹7 crore, under which all shops along the periphery of the garden will be demolished to make way for a new structure with a hall. The shopkeepers will get new shops at the same location, but with an upgraded structure. The tender for this project will be floated next week and will be cleared within a month, after which work will commence,” he said.
Salkar also mentioned progress on other development projects in Vasco. “We are working across all wards to bring comprehensive development. The ambitious Baina Power House project is also in its final stages,” he concluded.
