VASCO: A 47-year-old head constable attached to the Vasco Railway Police Station collapsed while on patrolling duty at the Vasco Railway Station on 17/10/2026 night, marking the second instance of a police personnel dying while on duty within the Vasco police jurisdiction in recent months.
The deceased, Santosh Gogle, a head constable with the Vasco Railway Police, was on routine patrolling duty when he suddenly collapsed at the station premises at around 20:20 hrs. He was immediately shifted by a 108 ambulance to the Sub-District Hospital, Chicalim, Vasco, where the doctor on duty declared him brought dead.
Gogle, aged 47, was residing near Rita General Store at Kiratlem, Baina, Vasco. During the enquiry, police learnt that he had a previous history of heart-related ailments. An inquest panchanama was conducted over the body, following which it was sent to the South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for post-mortem examination.
The autopsy, conducted by the police surgeon at SGDH Margao, certified the cause of death as acute myocardial infarction consequent to complete thrombotic occlusion of the left anterior descending coronary artery, in a case of underlying coronary artery disease with a previous history of coronary angioplasty. After completion of medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family members for final religious rites.
Vasco Railway Police registered a case of unnatural death in this connection. The enquiry was conducted by PI Amarnath Passi of Vasco Railway Police Station under the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
It may be recalled that on 8/12, another police personnel, 39-year-old senior constable Gaurish Satardekar, a resident of Headland Sada and attached to the SB Branch, died while on duty at the Vasco police station. Satardekar had reported to duty as usual and was interacting with staff before he suddenly felt unwell. He stepped out for a routine walk, experienced discomfort, and informed colleagues over the phone that he was uneasy. He was found sweating profusely and was rushed to the Chicalim Sub-District Hospital in a 108 ambulance, but is believed to have passed away while being transported, leaving colleagues and family in deep shock.
