VASCO: Vasco is set to witness major development over the next two years with the implementation of Smart City projects worth ₹140 crore aimed at upgrading infrastructure and civic amenities in the port town, said Krishna Salkar on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference along with Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson Girish Borker and councillors, the Vasco MLA said the government has sanctioned substantial funds under the Smart City initiative to revamp key facilities and improve the overall appearance of the town.
Salkar said several development works are planned as part of the project, including the demolition of old and dilapidated structures and their reconstruction into modern buildings to better serve residents. He added that efforts are also underway to improve civic infrastructure and public amenities across Vasco.
Among the major proposals is the construction of a modern market complex that will include a dedicated fruit and vegetable market to provide improved facilities for vendors and shoppers. Plans are also underway to develop an international-level bus stand in Vasco to enhance transport connectivity and commuter convenience.
He further stated that the railway station will also undergo upgrades, while a new sports complex is proposed to promote sporting activities and provide better facilities for youth in the constituency.
Salkar said the initiative will also focus on improving the town’s overall appearance through uniform painting of buildings and enhancement of basic civic amenities, with the aim of creating a cleaner and more organised urban environment.
“Vasco will witness significant changes in the coming years with the implementation of these projects. The aim is to modernise infrastructure, strengthen public facilities and improve the quality of life for residents,” Salkar said.
He added that the projects are expected to boost Vasco’s economy and position the port town as a more organised and modern urban centre in the region.
