BAINA: A 23-year-old youth lost his life after his motorcycle crashed into the safety barrier of the Baina flyover, causing him to fall onto the ground near the railway tracks at IOC junction in Vasco.
The accident occurred on Saturday when the rider, identified as Girish Ram Gurkha, a resident of Bhute Bhat, Baina, was proceeding from Vasco towards Baina on his KTM Duke motorcycle bearing registration number GA06Q3138. While negotiating the stretch on the flyover, he reportedly lost control and dashed against the side safety barrier. The impact caused him to be thrown off the bridge, and he fell onto the ground below, sustaining critical injuries. The pillion rider accompanying him suffered minor injuries in the incident.
Following the accident, Girish Gurkha was shifted to Sub District Hospital, Chicalim, in a 108 ambulance. However, hospital authorities later informed the police that he was brought dead to the casualty.
Police have registered a motor vehicle accident case in connection with the incident and further investigation is in progress.
