Fatorda: The 37th V.M. Salgaocar Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, held at the Multipurpose Stadium, Fatorda, turned into a showcase of emerging talent and seasoned dominance as Vedant Wagle, Gianna George, Ishita Colaso, Dhruva Kamat, Ishaan Colaso, and Ashank Dalvi claimed top honours across categories.
Organised by Cortalim Gymkhana under the aegis of the Goa Table Tennis Association, the tournament drew the state’s finest young paddlers for a thrilling display of skill and grit.
In the U13 Boys final, debut finalist Vedant Wagle announced his arrival on Goa’s competitive scene with a commanding 3-0 victory (11-8, 11-7, 11-3) over the spirited Yuvaan Sanke, who impressed with his maiden finals appearance this season. The U13 Girls title went to Gianna George, who displayed remarkable composure to edge past Sachi Dessai 3-0 (11-5, 11-7, 12-10), securing her first major title.
The U15 Boys final saw second seed Dhruva Kamat bounce back to his best, defeating Vedant Wagle 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-8) in a display of control and tactical play. In the U15 Girls final, Goa’s top-ranked paddler Ishita Colaso lived up to her billing, overpowering Gianna George 3-0 (11-1, 11-5, 11-3) to claim yet another crown.
In the U11 category, Ishaan Colaso dominated Ashank Dalvi 3-0 (11-4, 11-5, 11-2) to win the Boys title, while Anaya Shukla prevailed over Shaurya Dessai 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-9) to secure the Girls championship.
The tournament not only celebrated champions but also highlighted the depth of Goa’s table tennis talent, with several first-time finalists making their mark on the state circuit.
