New Delhi: India is preparing to introduce a Vehicle‑to‑Vehicle (V2V) communication system that promises to transform road travel by allowing vehicles to exchange vital information in real time. The advanced technology will enable cars, trucks and other road users to share data about their speed, position and direction, creating an intelligent network of communication that can help prevent collisions and improve overall traffic safety.
Under the V2V framework, vehicles equipped with the system will continuously transmit signals to nearby vehicles within a certain range. If there is a risk of collision or sudden change in movement, drivers will receive alerts, giving them precious seconds to react. The technology is expected to be particularly effective in scenarios such as blind‑spot warnings, intersection movement assistance and alerts for sudden braking ahead.
Officials driving the initiative say that the new system aligns with broader efforts to bring cutting‑edge safety solutions to India’s roads, where the number of vehicles and traffic density continues to rise. By making vehicles more aware of their surroundings through digital communication, authorities hope to reduce the number of road accidents, which have long been a major public safety concern.
Experts note that while the technology has been trialled in several countries, its adoption in India will require coordinated efforts from vehicle manufacturers, regulators and technology providers. Automakers will need to integrate compatible hardware and software into new models, and standards will have to be set to ensure seamless interaction among different brands and types of vehicles.
Once implemented, V2V could also pave the way for future innovations such as integration with smart city infrastructure and autonomous driving systems. Drivers are expected to benefit not only from improved safety but also from a more informed and connected driving experience.
Authorities say detailed timelines and implementation plans will be shared soon, giving drivers and manufacturers clarity on when the technology will begin rolling out across the country.
