MARGAO: Velim MLA Cruz Silva has launched an initiative in his constituency to tackle eye problems and restore vision, enabling 20 people to undergo successful cataract surgeries over the past five months.
The campaign, organised with the support of ASG Eye Hospital, offers free eye check-ups and surgeries for residents diagnosed with cataracts. More than a thousand patients have had their eyes examined since the programme began.
Residents including Justin Fernandes, Sunil Fernandes, N. Fernandes and Sebestian Fernandes shared that they had struggled with poor vision due to cataracts. After check-ups at the health centre in the MLA’s office, they were referred for surgery at the hospital, where their sight was restored. They expressed deep gratitude to MLA Cruz Silva for facilitating the treatment.
Buoyed by the strong public response, Silva announced that another eye examination health centre will soon be opened in the Velim Assembly constituency to reach even more people in need.
