Benaulim: Amid national-level developments indicating the Aam Aadmi Party’s withdrawal from the INDIA bloc, AAP’s Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas clarified on Friday that the party’s Goa unit has not been instructed to break ties with the Congress or other opposition parties in the State.
Viegas acknowledged recent statements by AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh suggesting the party’s exit from the INDIA alliance—an alliance primarily formed for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, he reiterated that the Goa unit continues to function in coordination with other opposition parties, particularly in the run-up to the upcoming Assembly session.
“We haven’t received any communication from the central leadership to sever ties. Our legislative team is still collaborating with other opposition members to question and hold the BJP government accountable in the Assembly,” Viegas said.
He further stressed that unity among non-BJP parties is essential if the ruling BJP is to be challenged effectively in Goa. According to Viegas, the people of Goa are looking for a strong, united opposition to counter what he described as a corrupt and divisive government. “The BJP thrives on a fractured opposition. Only a consolidated 70 percent non-BJP vote can bring about a change in governance,” he concluded.
