MARGAO: In accordance with Section 10A of the Employee’s Compensation Act, 1923, the contractor and the principal employer have been notified by the Labour Commissioner, who serves as the Commissioner for Employee’s Compensation, to provide the court with information about the four labourers who perished in the Verna accident.
According to the notice, the workers’ deaths were caused by an accident that happened while they were working.
Within 30 days of receiving the notice, the information must be submitted to the Labour Court.
District and Sessions Court heard arguments regarding the bail requests filed by Mehboob Subani Shaikh of Ponda and Abdulkhadar Kukkangai of Kerala. After four labourers were crushed to death by a minibus while they were sleeping in a roadside shanty in Verna, these people were taken into custody.
During the court session, the Verna police vehemently objected to the bail requests, highlighting the need to detain the contractor and supervisor pending additional investigation. The two had been remanded to five days of police custody by the Judicial Magistrate First Class in Margao.
Four people have been charged by the police with offences related to Sections 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act and IPC Sections 279, 336, 338, and 304.
