VERNA: Three days have passed since a bus run by the company crashed into makeshift hutments at the Verna IDC, killing four labourers and injuring four more. Police are still awaiting a report on the driver’s alcohol test results from the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) in Margao.
Bharat Govekar, 61, a bus driver from Cortalim who was also hurt in the accident, was taken into custody by Verna police on Monday after being released from the hospital. He was brought before a JMFC on Tuesday, and he was given a four-day remand in police custody.
Verna police acknowledged that they had not received a report regarding the bus driver’s alcohol test when contacted.
According to a police source, “We are still awaiting this report from the SGDH.”
Two of the four labourers hurt in the accident were released on Sunday and Tuesday, respectively. Two more are still receiving hospital medical care.
In the interim, the families of each of the four deceased have received their bodies for the last rites.
