PANAJI: In a thrilling encounter at Majorda Ground, Verna Cultural Sports Club edged out St. Sebastian Youth Sports Club Murida-Fatorda with a 4-3 victory in the St. Rock’s Inter-Village Football Tournament.
The match commenced with Edgar Noronha putting Fatorda ahead early in the game. However, Verna responded swiftly, with Desmond Gama equalizing for his side. The match remained tightly contested, leading to a penalty shootout to determine the winner.
During the shootout, Verna showcased clinical finishing, converting their penalties through Desmond Gama and Joyston Pinho. St. Sebastian Murida’s Richie Vaz was the sole scorer for his team in the shootout.
Verna’s goalkeeper, Samuel Miranda, was instrumental in his team’s success, earning the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his outstanding performance. The award was presented by Ligorio Braganza, a notable figure in Goan football.
This victory propels Verna CSC into the next stage of the tournament, as they continue their pursuit of the championship title.
