VERNA: Verna police late Sunday night raided a villa near Tata Rio de Goa, Sancoale, and busted an online gambling den allegedly operating during the high-profile India–Pakistan T20 Asia Cup clash. Five persons were caught red-handed while accepting online bets.
Acting on reliable intelligence, a team led by PI Anand L. Shirodkar and PSI Carey Fernandes, along with head constables and constables of Verna Police Station, conducted the raid around 11.30 pm on September 28.
The accused were identified as Deepak Karwani (35) of Madhya Pradesh; Manoj Mukhiya (25) and Madan Mukhiya (44), both of Bihar; Jagdish Choudhary (40) of Maharashtra; and Arvind Vishwakarma (25) of Maharashtra. All were residing in a rented house near Tata Rio, Zuarinagar.
Police seized 54 mobile phones, seven laptops, two internet routers, one television set, 17 bank passbooks, and other electronic gadgets, collectively valued at around ₹10 lakh. The items were attached under a seizure panchanama for investigation.
The accused were placed under arrest after being informed of the offences. PSI Carey Fernandes is investigating the case under the supervision of PI Shirodkar and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
