VERNA: In a swift and efficient investigation, the Verna Police Station solved a murder case within 24 hours, leading to the arrest of two accused involved in the brutal killing of Anil Muthamajhi (20) and the assault of Jihusaya Mandal (39) at St. Anthony’s Poultry Farm, Zambol, Cortalim.
According to the police, the incident occurred on March 20, 2025, around 12:30 PM, when two unidentified men, aged 29 to 30 years, wearing yellow and red T-shirts, entered the poultry farm and demanded free chicken. When the request was denied, they attacked Anil Muthamajhi and Jihusaya Mandal with a knife. Anil succumbed to his injuries, while Jihusaya Mandal was critically injured and is currently undergoing treatment at GMC Bambolim.
The crime was reported at Verna Police Station by Kuni Majhi, wife of the deceased, at 11:48 PM on the same day.
Taking immediate action, Verna police formed special teams and, with the help of technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, tracked down and arrested the two accused from a rented room in Davorlim, Margao, on Friday.
During interrogation, the two accused confessed to the crime and revealed that the attack was due to previous enmity with Jihusaya Mandal.
The Accused Santosh Indar Mallick (32), a resident of Bahaliaguda, Mohana Gajapati, Odisha and Pradhan Nalika Mandal (35), a resident of Agilipadar, Mohana Gajapati, Odisha have been arrested by Verna Police Station, under Sections 103(1) and 109 r/w 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The Victims Anil Muthamajhi (20), a laborer at St. Anthony’s Poultry Farm, Zambol, Cortalim succumbed to his injuries while
Jihusaya Mandal (39), also a laborer at the same poultry farm, currently receiving medical care at GMC Bambolim.
The investigation was led by PI Melson Colaco of Verna Police Station, under the supervision of SDPO Vasco, Gurudas Kadam, and SP South, Tikam Singh Verma. The case was cracked with the efforts of a dedicated team, including multiple police inspectors (PIs), sub-inspectors (PSIs), head constables (HCs), and police constables (PCs).
The Verna Police are continuing their investigation into the case, ensuring all aspects, including the background and further involvement of the accused, are thoroughly examined.
This swift action by the Goa Police showcases their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring justice is served without delay.
