VERNA: In a crackdown on the sale of tobacco near educational institutions, Verna Police on Tuesday seized tobacco products worth over ₹10,000 in two separate raids conducted near schools at Zuarinagar and Verna.
In the first raid, police seized tobacco products worth ₹8,515 from a tea stall belonging to Rajkumar Ghosh (27), son of Babu, resident of Zori, Zuarinagar, located within 100 meters of the Government School, Zori, Zuarinagar. The accused was booked for selling prohibited tobacco items in the school vicinity.
In the second raid, police seized tobacco products worth ₹2,200 from Jakir Hussain (33), son of Taleb Uddin, resident of Old Mardol and native of Assam, who was found selling the banned products at his mobile repairing shop near Shree Mahalasa Narayani School, IDC Verna.
Police said the seized products have been taken into custody for legal proceedings and warned that strict action will continue against those found violating the ban on the sale of tobacco near schools.
