SANGUEM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Sanguem is most likely to see a split in the BJP votes this election as the BJP supporters are divided between the Savitri Kavlekar and Subhash Faldesai, who was recently given a BJP ticket in Sanguem.
The political situation in Sanguem has turned more interesting in recent times, with Savitri, wife of Dy CM Babu Kavlekar, being denied a party ticket and the party ticket landing in the lap of former Sanguem BJP MLA Subhash Faldesai.
The tall claims that the Kavlekar has made publicly to get the BJP ticket fell flat on the ground after Faldesai was declared BJP candidate from Sanguem.
This triggered the revolt in the BJP camp, with Savitri quitting BJP and deciding to contest independently.
The situation is that the Kavlekar supporters have decided to back Savitri, and some BJP supporters will back Subhash, which will divide the BJP votes, indirectly benefitting other political parties such as Congress AAP etc. in Sanguem. As per the reliable sources, Savitri is loyal from within to BJP, and if elected, she is most likely to re-join BJP.
Considering the differences between Savitri and Subhash, the Congress candidate Prasad Gaonkar will benefit as his own following is present in the Sanguem constituency.
Herewith AAP, Revolutionary Goans, MGP and TMC coming into the picture will also divide the votes of the Congress party too.
AAP candidate Abhijeet Desai is also getting good responses in Netravali, Curpe, Caurem and other places of the Sanguem constituency. Revolutionary Goans candidate Sunil Gaonkar has been seen approaching youths people and campaigning for RG.
Trinamool Congress party, Rakhi Naik, who has got enormous experience of working in the various political parties in her short political span, is also seen doing door to door campaigning in Sanguem, asking votes on TMC symbol from the Sanguem locals.
Some candidates, such as Savitri Kavlekar, have support from two Sanguem Municipal councillors, Messiah Dcosta and Sangameshwar Naik, whereas Prasad Gaonkar has support from councillors Fauziya Sheikh and Rumaldo Fernandes.
BJP leader Faldesai has got three councillors support.
