Panaji: Fatorda MLA and Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai raised serious concerns in the Assembly over the import of PoP Ganesh idols, which he said are directly threatening the livelihood of Goan artisans and eroding Goa’s cultural traditions.
Speaking to the Speaker, Sardesai highlighted that many local idol-makers have been forced to shut down their businesses due to a failure in enforcement by the government. “Our Goan artisans are giving up their craft because no one is protecting them,” he said.
He called on the government to set up a dedicated market space for Goan artisans, where they can sell their handmade clay idols directly to citizens.
“If we don’t act now, this beautiful Goan tradition will also disappear,” Sardesai warned.
The CM, Dr. Pramod Sawant, assured action and enhanced checks at Goa’s interstate borders.
The Goa Forward Party President continues to stand by the Goemkars, their culture, and their right to livelihood.
