FATORDA: Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai today has written to Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju demanding reservation for the ST community in Goa Legislative Assembly.
“I have written to Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju demanding reservation for the ST community in Goa Legislative Assembly. Union Govt should take all necessary steps to give reservation to ST community,” said Sardesai.
He further said that Based on the direction issued by the parliamentary committee, a proposal has been moved by the Director of Tribal Welfare, Govt. of Goa, to reserve four seats for Scheduled Tribes in the Goa assembly considering the census data of 2011.
“The same has been pending for the Government’s approval for the last 2 months despite the Chief Minister’s assurance in the Goa Assembly,” he added.
Vijai demanded to constitute the Delimitation Commission for the purpose of delimitation of Assembly and Parliamentary Constituencies in the State of Goa or send government recommendations to the President of India for the promulgation of Ordinance along the lines of the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies (third), Ordinance, 2013,” he added.
Sardesai said, “This has been a long-pending demand. We had raised this issue in the last assembly, but we didn’t have enough time. It is an irony that though the President of the country belongs to the tribal community, our very own tribal community is facing injustice,” he added.
The government must understand why the right is not bestowed on us. Justice delayed is
justice denied.”

Take all steps necessary to give political reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa, in the House of the People and Legislative Assembly of Goa.
