Canacona: Goa Forward Party president and Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardessai launched a sharp attack on the BJP government, alleging widespread corruption and calling it a government “run by dacoits.” He was speaking in Canacona after the induction of former minister and ex MLA Isidore Fernandes along with fifteen supporters into the party ahead of the Zilla Panchayat elections.
Sardessai said the induction of Fernandes was part of the party’s strategy to challenge what he described as a communal and corrupt BJP in the upcoming polls. He urged allies not to view Fernandes’s entry as a setback, pointing out that Fernandes had contested the last assembly election as an Independent after being denied a BJP ticket. According to him, the only party with reason to object to the move was the BJP.
He said Fernandes’s support base would strengthen efforts to defeat the BJP first in the ZP elections and later in the 2027 assembly polls.
Referring to the recent robbery incident in Vasco, Sardessai said criminal activity was rising under the current government. He claimed that “dacoits are taking centre stage” because “dacoits are governing Goa.”
Sardessai also accused the government of failing on employment. He said the police department itself had filed a case indicating irregularities in job recruitments. He added that Goa had among the highest unemployment levels in the country and alleged that the government had no clear plan to provide opportunities to youth.
According to him, the so called double engine model had brought no improvement to the state and instead had led to increased corruption and hardship for Goans.
