Salem: At a large election rally in Salem, Tamil Nadu, actor-turned-politician Vijay, president of the Tamilnadu Vetrivaasi Kootani (TVK), took aim at the ruling M.K. Stalin and his government, accusing them of failing to address key issues facing the state. Speaking to a sea of supporters, Vijay urged voters to think differently in the upcoming assembly elections and consider TVK as a fresh alternative to the established parties.
Vijay highlighted what he described as shortcomings in governance, including unemployment, rising prices, and neglect of youth aspirations. He said these problems have not been tackled effectively by the DMK administration and argued that people’s frustrations were visible across the state.
The rally saw a large turnout, with people gathering along the route and filling the venue to hear the TVK chief lay out his vision. Vijay appealed directly to young voters and first-time electors, urging them to participate actively in shaping Tamil Nadu’s future. He said his party’s focus would be on jobs, development and inclusive growth, themes he said resonate with ordinary citizens.
In a pointed critique of Stalin’s leadership, Vijay alleged that the state had seen insufficient action on corruption and that promises made in previous terms remained unfulfilled. He also spoke about infrastructure gaps and economic challenges that, he said, needed urgent attention.
Vijay’s speech was interspersed with chants and slogans from supporters. At times, the atmosphere turned energetic, reflecting enthusiasm among his base. Party workers distributed campaign material and reiterated the call for change, as TVK tries to expand its footprint beyond core supporters.
The rally comes as Tamil Nadu gears up for assembly elections, with rival parties intensifying their campaigns across the state. TVK’s emergence as a political player adds a new dynamic to the contest, forcing traditional parties to respond to its growing appeal, especially among younger demographics.
By the end of his address, Vijay reiterated his commitment to issue-based politics and assured supporters that TVK would continue to press for transparency, accountability, and opportunities for all. The rally ended with chants of his name and slogans calling for a new chapter in Tamil Nadu politics.
