VERNA: Tension prevailed at IDC Verna after a group of men allegedly trespassed into a construction office, assaulted the occupants, damaged property and even desecrated a temple inside the premises.
Police said the complaint was lodged by Sreejukumar Pillai of Zuarinagar, Sancoale, who reported that around 4 pm, accused Mohamed Ali Shaikh, his son-in-law Suhail Shaikh, and others, all residents of Sao Jose de Areal, forcefully entered the office of SJ Construction.
The accused allegedly abused the complainant, his father and staff in filthy language, broke the glass panel of a teapoy, assaulted the complainant with a flower pot, and further attacked his father with fist blows. They also issued threats of dire consequences.
In a shocking act, accused Suhail Shaikh allegedly spat on photographs of deities in the office temple, thereby hurting religious sentiments.
Verna Police have taken cognizance of the matter, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Mahesh Bhomkar.
