PANAJI: St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar and youth activist Tushar Gawas were discharged from hospital on Saturday after being admitted following the conclusion of their fast at Azad Maidan.
The two had been undergoing medical observation after they ended their hunger strike, which was part of the ongoing agitation against Section 39A of the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Act.
Speaking after his discharge, Borkar reaffirmed that the agitation would continue until Section 39A is withdrawn. He urged the government to scrap the contentious provision during the forthcoming Assembly session.
The MLA also appealed to both ruling and Opposition legislators to rise above party lines and consider the long-term interests of Goa while deliberating on the issue.
Supporters gathered outside the hospital welcomed the duo and reiterated their demand for the repeal of Section 39A, signalling that protests are likely to continue in the coming days.
