MARGAO: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has said that his recent apology to former Chief Minister and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat was genuine and not intended as a political gesture or for public optics.
Rane, who had earlier admitted to having harassed Kamat during his tenure as Chief Minister, declined to elaborate on the nature of the actions.
“Only Kamat and I know what I referred to. I made the apology with sincerity, not behind closed doors but in public,” he said, speaking to media on Sunday.
The Health Minister stressed the importance of treating MLAs with respect, stating that power is temporary and subject to the will of party leadership.
He also praised Kamat’s developmental work in Sattari and acknowledged his leadership.
Rane noted the longstanding relationship between their families, mentioning that his father, former Chief Minister Pratapsing Rane, had recommended Kamat’s name for the top post in 2007.
“This bond between our families is strong, and it is important to maintain it,” he added.
