PONDA: The sarpanch post could not be filled as the two ladies who filed nominations never got seconder for the past four and half years.
In a five-member panchayat, three elected are male panch members, and two are females.
The Sarpanch post was reserved for a woman, but the three male Panchas did not second the ladies.
Every time a lady panch-member filed nominations for the post, none of the male panch members supported it.
Hence, the male deputy Sarpanch was ruling the Panchayat.
Now for the first time, Anjali Anil Naik became sarpanch with a supporting lady and one male Panch Nilkant Naik.
As per the Panchayat Raj Act, when a Panch member files nomination for Sarpanch Post, the name needs to be proposed and seconded by two other Panchmembers.
However, in the case of Volvoi, whenever one lady panch member filed a nomination, another lady panch used to propose her name but never got a seconder from male Panchas.
