CANACONA: Vrunda Vasu Velip is elected the new sarpanch of Khotigao Village panchayat on Tuesday.
Vrunda has declared elected unopposed by the presiding officer after completing the official formalities as her nomination is the only one received for the post of Sarpanch in the 7-member Khotigao village panchayat. Except for one panch, all the panch members were present for the special meeting to elect the new sarpanch.
Vrunda will be the second sarpanch during this term, after the incumbent Anandu Desai who occupied the chair since the election of the current term, tendered his resignation to make way for the second panch member of the ruling group consisting of 5 out of 7 panchas.
According to sources, Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar personally visited the Khotigao panchayat to congratulate Smt Vrunda Velip for getting elected unopposed and wished her success.
Poinguinim VP Sarpanch Savita Tawadkar, Khotigao out-going Sarpanch Anandu Desai, Canacona BJP Block President Vishal Desai, besides Shristhal BMC Chairperson Vinay Tubki, also reached the Khotigao VP and wished the newly elected sarpanch.
