SANKHALI: A waiter working at a local restaurant in Sankhali has been arrested for allegedly duping his employer of over ₹70,000 through fraudulent online transactions and theft from the restaurant premises.
Police said the accused, identified as Nikhil Thakur, an employee at Swad Restaurant, deceitfully obtained the PIN of the restaurant’s Google Pay account which was linked to his employer’s mobile phone. He allegedly used the phone to fraudulently transfer ₹20,000 and ₹50,000 from the complainant’s bank account into his own.
The accused is also reported to have stolen ₹3,500 in cash from the restaurant’s locker/drawer, which had been entrusted to him by the owner.
The complaint was lodged by Bhanudas Parab (53), businessman and owner of Swad Restaurant, resident of Dessai Nagar, Sankhali, who accused his employee of cheating, misappropriation and theft.
The incident took place on August 17 at 10.24 am at Swad Restaurant, Vithalapur, Sankhali.
Sankhali Police registered offences under sections 316(4), 318(2), 318(3), 318(4), 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. Thakur has been placed under arrest and further investigation is underway.
