Panaji: A 22-year-old waiter from Mizoram, Lalrinnunga s/o Lalfakzuala, has been sentenced to ten years of rigorous imprisonment after being found guilty in a case of rape, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation, and attempted murder that occurred in 2019 at a hotel in Arpora, Bardez.
According to police records, the incident took place in the early hours of December 18, 2019, when the victim, a woman staying at Room No. B2-104 of Mello Rosa Hotel, filed a complaint stating that the accused, an employee at the hotel, had wrongfully confined her, threatened to kill her, sexually assaulted her without consent, and attempted to smother her with a pillow.
Based on the complaint, Anjuna Police registered Cr. No. 134/19 under Sections 342, 506(ii), 376, and 307 of the Indian Penal Code. The accused was arrested on the same day at 8:01 AM.
Following a detailed investigation by PSI Amir Taral of Anjuna Police Station, the case was charge-sheeted and tried before the Fast Track (POCSO) Court, Panaji. The court has now convicted Lalrinnunga and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
Public Prosecutor Mrs. A. Mendonza and the Investigating Officer were commended for their diligent efforts in securing the conviction.
