PANAJI: Rohit Monserrate has been re-elected as Mayor of Corporation of the City of Panaji for the 4th consecutive term while Sanjeev Naik was re-elected as Deputy Mayor for 3rd term.
Both Monserrate and Naik were re-elected unopposed during the elections held today.
Only one nomination each was received from Monserrate for the Mayor’s post and from Naik for the Deputy Mayor’s post. As per the CCP Act, the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor are to be elected every year.
“I want to finish up all works that had been taken up and pending in my third term. Also the new building of CCP will be completed. We want the corporation to be fully self sufficient,” said Monserrate.
He further said that CCP wants to resolve the issue and complete third phase of Panaji market.
“Want to make CCP self sufficient; we have to reach a point i.e to lower taxes for the whole; to do that I have to take control of all the properties currently, all our properties have been in some litigation or other” he added.
Last year, Rohit Monserrate and Sanjeev Naik were re-elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the CCP, respectively. Only one nomination each was received from Monserrate for the Mayor’s post and from Naik for the Deputy Mayor’s post. The elections were held on March 30, 2023.
