Panaji: A heartfelt farewell was accorded to the Governor of Goa, Shri P. S. Sreedharan Pillai, at the Raj Bhavan today before his departure to his hometown. The Governor graced the “Financial Aid Distribution” ceremony held at the New Durbar Hall, where he personally handed out assistance to several beneficiaries.
The event witnessed the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shri Shripad Y. Naik, Health Minister Shri Vishwajeet Rane, Goa University Vice Chancellor Prof. Harilal B. Menon, Secretary to the Governor Shri Sanjeev C. Gauns Dessai, and Shri R. Mihir Vardhan, IAS (Retd), Special Officer to the Governor. The First Lady of Goa, Smt. Rita Shreedharan Pillai, also attended the ceremony.
In his address, Chief Minister Dr. Sawant praised the Governor for making the Raj Bhavan more accessible to the people and appreciated his unwavering support in running the affairs of the state smoothly.
Governor Pillai, in his farewell speech, expressed gratitude to the people of Goa for their overwhelming support during his tenure. He especially thanked the Chief Minister for assisting in implementing various initiatives through the Raj Bhavan.
Union Minister Shripad Naik lauded the Governor’s deep connection with the Goan populace, highlighting his compassion and the significant financial aid extended to cancer and dialysis patients. He noted that the Raj Bhavan, under Shri Pillai’s leadership, became a “home for visitors.”
As part of the farewell programme, the Governor distributed discretionary financial aid to 38 cancer and dialysis patients. Aid was also extended to several institutions, organisations, and religious bodies in Goa. Certificates were presented to students for their achievements.
The ceremony featured addresses by Prof. Harilal Menon and Shri Sanjeev C. Gauns Dessai, while Shri R. Mihir Vardhan delivered the introductory speech. Deputy Comptroller Shri Sandesh Gadkari proposed the vote of thanks.
A Guard of Honour was presented to the Governor at the entrance of the New Durbar Hall, marking the conclusion of his tenure in the state.
