Panaji: The latest round of matches in the MCL 11 T20 tournament brought an exciting day of cricket in Margao, where MCC Warriors and MCC Tigers recorded impressive victories in their respective fixtures. The matches were played at the MCC ground and featured disciplined bowling, composed batting, and two well-executed chases.
In the morning encounter, MCC Warriors overcame MCC Stallions with a five-wicket win built on a steady all-round effort. The Stallions, opting to bat first, managed 144 before being dismissed in 17.2 overs. Their top order showed promise with steady contributions, but the innings could not maintain momentum against a focused Warriors attack. Raghuvir Kuncolienkar and Vikas Shetty struck crucial blows, while Govind Lotlikar added impact with the ball before leading the charge in the chase.
Lotlikar anchored the Warriors’ reply with a decisive 38, guiding his team to the target with 18.5 overs completed. Support came from Kapil Angle and Rizwan Kazi, ensuring the chase remained controlled throughout. His all-round contribution earned him the Player of the Match award as the Warriors extended their strong run in the league.
The afternoon match delivered a gripping finish as MCC Tigers edged out MCC Knights by two wickets in a closely contested game. Chasing 162, the Tigers relied on calm partnerships and composed middle-order batting to seal the match in the final overs. Ambey Parwatkar, Rajaram Kundaikar, and captain Vaibhav Naik each contributed 35, forming the backbone of a well-timed chase.
Earlier, the Knights reached 161 for nine in their 20 overs, driven by important knocks from their top order. However, the Tigers’ bowlers kept breakthroughs coming at regular intervals. Kundaikar played a significant role with both bat and ball, striking twice during the Knights’ innings before adding a match-defining 35 in the chase. His all-round display earned him the Player of the Match honour.
Both matches showcased spirited performances and maintained the competitive rhythm of the tournament, highlighting the balance of talent across teams as the league progresses.
