Minister for Waste Management Michael Lobo has announced that the Reject Derived Fine (RDF) will be reduced by 50 p.c by November and new plant will be set up at the Sonsodo dump.
Lobo was on his first visit to Sonsode after the lockdown alongwith Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai. Chief Officer Chairperson of MMC, Member Secretary of the Solid Waste Management Levinson Martins and several others were also present for the visit.
Lobo said that they plan to have eight small modular garbage treatment plants for treating garbage at Sonsodo.
He has assured to speed up the process of the same and also make sure that the remaining old dump at Sonsodo is remediated.
“The technology recommended by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, from Solapur will be brought here in the form of small modular plants. Four of them will be at old shade below and remaining on the tabletop at the Sonsodo,” he said adding this plants will treat wet waste and dry waste will continue to be baled and sent to cement plants.
“The technology has been taken from the GEM portal of the Central Government which is a pool of contractors with technologies which are selected by the state according to their requirements. Minister told that the same will be executed by using Government, Municipal funds and also the 14th Finance Commission Funds with the MMC,” he says.
