New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday asserted that India exercised deliberate restraint during ‘Operation Sindoor’, despite having the capability to escalate its military response to Pakistan’s terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at the CII Annual Business Summit 2025 in New Delhi, Singh said, “We could have done much more, but restraint is required with power.” He emphasized that India chose a measured response, targeting terror hideouts and military bases in Pakistan in a manner that balanced strength with responsibility.
India’s Defence Capabilities on Display
Singh praised India’s indigenous defence capabilities showcased during Operation Sindoor, saying it highlighted the strategic importance of the ‘Make in India’ initiative. “Our home-grown systems during Operation Sindoor have shocked the entire world, proving we can penetrate any enemy’s armour,” he stated.
He also underlined India’s advancements in modern defence technologies, noting the country’s growing presence in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Defence, Unmanned Systems, and Space-Based Security.
Message to Pakistan
Reiterating India’s tough stance on terrorism, Singh warned Pakistan against supporting terror networks. “Running the business of terrorism is not cost-effective; rather, it may come with a heavy price, as Pakistan has realised today,” he said.
He added that India has recalibrated its strategy and engagement with Pakistan, making it clear that future dialogue will be centered only around terrorism and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK).
‘POK Will Return to India’
Describing the residents of POK as “our own people,” Singh expressed hope for their eventual return to India. “Most of the people in POK feel a deep connection with India. There are only a few who have been misled,” he said.
He added, “By following the path of love, unity, and truth, the day is not far when POK will say, ‘I am India, I have come back.’” Singh emphasized that the reintegration of POK would be driven by India’s cultural, social, and economic strength.
