CALANGUTE: Raising strong objection to shack owners subletting their business, Calangute BJP MLA Michael Lobo today said that shacks were allowed to promote Goan cuisine and not idli sambar.
“We have asked the tourism department to cancel the licenses of Shack owners who have sublet their properties,” said Lobo
He further said that these licences are given to locals for running shacks, showing the skills and talents of Goans and giving tourists a taste of Goan cuisine and not the cuisines from other states.
“We don’t want idli sambhar selling in our beach shacks,” Lobo said
Lobo said that Goa cannot be defamed by any inflencer. It’s us who are defaming Goa. He said that stakeholders need to admit that we have made a mistake.
“We sell idli sambhar in shacks and this has to be stopped, if shack owners are subletting then what are we trying to tell tourists? That we are serving idli sambhar on the beach?” said Calangute MLA
He also said that he was not against it but, if the cuisine which is supposed to be served in shacks, that is supposed to be the promotion of our goan cuisine, seafood, is not served.
Are we showing the culture of Hyderabad, Maharashtra or Karnataka on our goan beach? Questioned Lobo
Speaking on taxi issue, Lobo said that the taxi issue is not resolved yet and the cab aggregators and local taxi operators have their dispute ongoing.
“We always hear such incidents, we as stakeholders be it taxi owners, rent a car, rent a bike owners, all of us need to sit together and put things in place,” he added
Lobo said that if we don’t put things in the place in Goa then we will see the dark days in the tourism sector in the coming years.
Meanwhile, Calangute MLA also said that dog menace needs to be controlled for which we have put a lot of issues in the place.
“We are going to write to CM and ask him to coordinate with the Animal husbandry department, local authorities and NGOs” he said
