New Delhi: In a significant address at the Bharatheeya Vichara Kendra in Kerala, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar voiced deep concern over what he described as “orchestrated, financially backed misadventures” aimed at altering India’s demographic landscape through religious conversions. This issue, he emphasized, poses a critical threat to the nation’s unity and diversity. Dhankhar’s remarks highlighted the importance of organic demographic evolution, warning that inorganic changes could lead to societal divisions and undermine the country’s democratic fabric.
Dhankhar alleged that these conversions often involve exploiting vulnerable populations through allurements and temptations, which he deemed intolerable. He stressed that while the Constitution guarantees the right to choose one’s religion, using inducements to influence such choices is unacceptable. The Vice President also linked these conversions to broader national challenges, including illegal immigration and its impact on employment, healthcare, and electoral politics.
Furthermore, Dhankhar noted that demographic shifts can significantly influence election outcomes, creating regional strongholds. He emphasized that addressing these challenges requires more than policy changes, as they pose existential threats to India’s nationalism and democracy. Dhankhar urged citizens to remain vigilant and work together to preserve India’s demographic integrity.
The event was part of the 4th P Parameswaran Memorial Lecture, honoring a senior figure in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Dhankhar’s comments have reignited a national debate on religious conversions and their implications for India’s social and political landscape.
