New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a strong message to both terrorists and their backers, said India delivered a “befitting reply” during Operation Sindoor, showcasing the nation’s strength and resolve in the face of cross-border terrorism. Speaking via video conference during the 50th anniversary celebration of Sikkim’s statehood, PM Modi said India exposed Pakistan’s true nature by targeting and destroying several Pakistani airbases.
“Pakistan attacked our civilians and armed forces, but their real face has now been exposed to the world. We destroyed their terror bases and showed what India is capable of — when and how we choose to act,” he said.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. The operation targeted terror camps and infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, neutralizing over 100 terrorists and demolishing nine terror hubs. When Pakistan retaliated with missile and drone strikes, India escalated its response by crippling 11 Pakistani airbases in precision strikes over four days.
‘Attack on Humanity and Brotherhood’
Condemning the Pahalgam attack, the Prime Minister said it was not just an act of terror, but a direct attack on humanity and the spirit of brotherhood. “What the terrorists did was meant to divide us. They wanted to instill fear and hatred. But instead, Indians have shown greater unity, and the world is watching that we stand together,” PM Modi asserted.
“This was not just an attack on tourists or citizens. It was an assault on our soul, our families, and our collective peace. But through Operation Sindoor, we gave them a karara jawab — a strong and decisive answer.”
Pakistan Brought to the Table
Following India’s overwhelming response, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations contacted his Indian counterpart on May 10, seeking a ceasefire. India agreed, but issued a firm warning that any future terrorist attack will be treated as an “act of war.”
“Frustrated by the destruction of their terror bases, Pakistan tried to target our civilians and soldiers again. But even in that, their failure was exposed. Our precision strikes on military targets proved that India can and will respond swiftly and powerfully,” PM Modi said.
He emphasized that Operation Sindoor has not concluded, but is currently paused, leaving room for further action if provoked.
Due to adverse weather, the Prime Minister could not attend the Sikkim event in person and addressed the gathering from Bagdogra.
