NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit West Bengal on Friday, July 18, to address a public rally in Durgapur, West Burdwan district, and to inaugurate several major central government projects worth over ₹5,000 crore. The visit, he clarified, is both political and administrative in nature.
In a pair of statements shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account Thursday evening, PM Modi outlined the key focus areas of his visit. In the first post, he hit out at the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, stating, “West Bengal is suffering due to TMC misrule. People are looking at the BJP with hope and believe that only BJP can deliver on development. Tomorrow, July 18, I will be addressing a @BJPBengal rally in Durgapur. Do join!”
In a separate post, the Prime Minister emphasized the developmental focus of his trip, noting that several infrastructure and energy projects will be launched or inaugurated during the visit. “Looking forward to being among the people of West Bengal tomorrow. At a programme in Durgapur, will lay foundation stones and inaugurate projects worth over ₹5,000 crore. The projects span across vital sectors such as oil and gas, power, railways, and roads,” he wrote.
As per the official schedule, the Prime Minister will land at Andal Airport around 2:35 p.m. and will reach the event venue by 3:00 p.m. Two separate stages have been prepared at the venue—one for the administrative programme and the other for the political rally.
The administrative programme, where PM Modi will virtually inaugurate and lay foundation stones for multiple development projects, is set to take place between 3:00 and 3:30 p.m. Following that, he will address a political rally organised by the BJP’s West Bengal unit from 3:45 to 4:15 p.m.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to return to Delhi by 5:00 p.m., concluding a high-impact visit that blends governance and campaign messaging, as the BJP intensifies its efforts to strengthen its presence in the politically crucial state.
The visit comes at a time when the BJP is gearing up for upcoming electoral battles in West Bengal, with PM Modi directly attacking the TMC’s governance while simultaneously showcasing the Centre’s development agenda for the state.
