MARCEL: A 41-year-old man from West Bengal was found dead in his rented room in Bhoma, Marcel, on Thursday night, in what police are investigating as a suspected suicide.
The deceased has been identified as Palaksh Basak, a native of Dinajpur, West Bengal. Mardol Police received a phone call at 10:20 p.m. on August 28 from Babusso Gaude, the owner of the rented accommodation, who discovered the body.
According to a police spokesperson, the deceased’s friend, Tapash Balak from Gauthanwada, identified the body. The initial police inquiry suggests that the suicide may be linked to financial and family issues.
Following the discovery, a police team conducted a detailed panchanama of the scene. Basak’s body was transferred to the South Goa District Hospital in Margao for post-mortem and other medico-legal formalities.
PSI Zaki Hussain of Mardol Police Station is leading the ongoing investigation.
