MORJIM: While the State government has been promising to improve the school infrastructure in the State, here is a case of a panchayat dumping garbage in the government school at Morjim.
Sounds shocking but true, a property bearing survey No. 61/0, situated at Bandekarwada, Morjim, Pemem, Goa, was gifted by the owner of the said property to the Government for the purpose of educational institutions and the part of the said property admeasuring an area of 250 sq. mts.
Locals said this was a Government primary school, which was taken up for renovation.
“We were told that Primary school will be repaired by govt for Educational purpose. But instead of that Panchayat has started dumping garbage inside the school,” said Anand R. Bandekar, who has now written to panchayat and education director, which is signed by all villagers.
He says the school is surrounded by houses and Garbage will create health issues as well as environmental issues to the people staying surrounding.
“It is learnt from the reliable sources that the village Panchayat of Morjim is trying to acquire the said property for the purpose of Garbage plant. We resident of Bandekarwada, Morjim strongly object for the Garbage plant in the said property at Bandekarwada, Morjim, Pernem, Goa as the said property was gifted for the purpose of educational institutions and not for any other purpose,” he says in the letter.
Without prejudice, the letter adds, it is stated that the said property is existing in the residential locality and hence the said property cannot be used for garbage plant as it will affect the peoples who are residing.
“We have no objection if the said property is used for developing the said property for any educational project. That our objection shall be considered before passing any resolution with respect to the said property,” he said.
