NEW DELHI:
Israel has responded with an AI-generated image bearing the words ‘Where Were Your Eyes On October 7th’ in response to the “All eyes on Rafah” social media campaign which saw 44 million Instagram accounts along with global celebrities and sports stars sharing the AI-generated image focusing on the Gaza crisis.
The image released by the Israeli government has gathered over 594,300 views, 29,000 likes and 6,600 reposts. The image was captioned with the words: “We will NEVER stop talking about October 7th. We will NEVER stop fighting for the hostages.”
On X, the platform formerly Twitter, has also seen 27.5 million messages published in three days about the attack on the southern Gazan city bordering Egypt that generated international outrage.
Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry said an Israeli strike on the camp that sparked a fire on Sunday killed 45 people and injured 249, sparking an international condemnation.
The slogan “All eyes on Rafah” has also been widely shared in other publications and social networks, especially X, where the hashtag #alleyesonrafah has attracted almost one million hits, according to online monitor Visibrain.
The Israeli government, which is led by Benjamin Netanyahu, shared an image on X platform featuring the text “Where were your eyes on October 7,” accompanied by a depiction of what is possibly a Hamas militant standing before a baby.
Israel claims that the deaths of the Palestinian civilians during this week’s airstrike on the area sheltering millions of internally-displaced Palestinians was a ‘tragic mishap’ and have probed the strike. Its army defended itself by saying that flammable materials led to the fire inside the tent and its weapons payload could not have caused that kind of damage.
