PANAJI: Former GPCC president Girish Chodankar questioned why the BJP government in Goa has not launched an investigation into the Rs 5,600 crore cocaine seizure in Delhi, of which drugs worth Rs 2,000 crore was intended to be transported to Goa.
He highlighted the gravity of the situation and demanded immediate action to address the potential threat posed by drug trafficking networks.
Chodankar expressed concern about the lack of response from the BJP government, especially given the alarming amount of drugs that were meant for Goa. “If a single dose of cocaine costs Rs 1,000, and Rs 2,000 crore worth of the drugs were meant for Goa, this suggests a market for 2 crore doses. This alarming figure highlights the gravity of the situation,” he said.
He said that the infiltration of drugs, along with issues like human trafficking, corrupt police, and illegal firearms, indicates a broader societal problem. Chodankar criticized the state administration’s inaction, calling it concerning in light of such severe threats. Chodankar reiterated that Drugs have become the business of BJP parivar in Goa and recalled the seizure of 100 KG of Ketamine drugs at the BJP office bearers industrial unit in Pissurlem, Sattari by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and several BJP leaders involved in this immoral trade under the protection of BJP Government. He said, DRI and Hyderabad police can get drugs but Goa police & local administration Can’t find them.
Chodankar mentioned a recent tragedy in Hyderabad where a young student died due to drug use. He noted that the Hyderabad police promptly traced the suppliers back to Goa and made arrests. “Why has the Goa Government failed to demonstrate similar resolve? Are they protecting someone, or are they just indifferent to the plight of Goans? We demand answers,” he stated.
He said that the safety and future of Goa’s youth are at stake, calling for immediate investigations and actions to bring the culprits to justice. “Immediate investigations and bringing the culprits to justice are essential to address this menace. The people of Goa deserve a proactive approach to protect the community from the dangers posed by such large-scale drug trafficking,” Chodankar said.
